In
general, the Pacific Ocean is characterized
by widely separated, gentle swells consistent
with this area of the Pacific being in the
“tropical doldrums” and south of the trade
winds. Smaller boats of 6-8 meters length
are ideal for these waters and also well
suited for entering and exiting from excursion
sites. Nearly all boats used in this area
are locally made specifically for these
waters. Whales, dolphins, sea turtles and
manta rays are frequently seen.

With
the abundance of the salt water, mosquitoes
are not a problem. However saltwater midges
(“no-see-ums”) can be a nuisance particularly
in the days prior to a full moon if no breezes
are present. Avon “Skin so Soft” ( a skin
cream) can be an effective repellant. Also
a percentage of people show allergic reactions
to “no-see-ums” and can benefit from anti-allergic
pills or topical cream.
