Rio Sierpe Lodge is nestled among the rainforest, mangrove estuaries and coastal islands of the northwest Osa Peninsula and the Southern Pacific coast. The Lodge has no access roads or nearby airports and provides a rich, ecological setting for a wide range of adventures.

Located near Violin Island and the mouth of the Rio Sierpe, the remote location (accesible only by boat) provides an escape from towns, villages and tourist developments. Guest can see monkeys, toucans, macaws, sea turtles, crocodiles, etc. at the Lodge. The adjacent forests and mangroves also have nearly all of the flora and fauna of the Osa Peninsula.

Guests from more than 50 countries have enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of the Lodge with its host Mike Stiles over the previous 16 years. Mike traveled and worked throughout Africa and Latin America and has brought concepts and ideas from those travels to the Lodge

Lodge facilities support extensive guest activities and comforts, even though the Lodge is remotely located:
  • Spacious, airy and screened rooms (14) with private bathrooms. Six of the rooms are two story with a sleeping loft.
  • Large dining room, library / recreation areas and a 30 meter long covered dock; all overlooking the waterways.
  • A spring for fresh, potable water.
  • Interesting, international style meals with European accents and lots of fresh vegetables and fruits.
  • Lodge operated primary and secondary electrical systems.
  • Forested hills behind Lodge which generally provide cool evening breezes while the Pacific provides daytime breezes.
  • Three hiking trails from Lodge into primary forest and mangroves.

Access to the Lodge is via:

  • Sansa or Nature Air flights to Palmar Sur
  • Tracopa buses to Palmar Norte
  • Rental cars to the village of Sierpe (secure parking available)

Guests are met and transferred from Palmar or Sierpe on a 26 kilometer boat excursion through the Rio Sierpe and estuaries while viewing the extensive mangroves and wildlife.
